About UDEI
Specialist dry eye care. Without the runaround.
U Dry Eye Institute is Ontario’s dedicated dry eye centre. We diagnose the cause, not just the symptoms — and we treat it with advanced evidence-based care delivered by specialist optometrists working alongside cornea surgeon partners.
Why UDEI Exists
The gap in dry eye care. We fill it.
Dry eye disease is one of the most common complaints in optometry and ophthalmology. Yet most patients are managed rather than diagnosed. Symptoms are treated, but causes are overlooked.
UDEI exists because specialist evaluation and advanced treatment for dry eye were not easily accessible. Our optometrists have chosen to dedicate their entire practice to dry eye — delivering advanced diagnostics (UltraView DEL, meibomian gland imaging, advanced tear film analysis), in-office treatments (LipiFlow, BlephEx, meibomian gland procedures), and long-term management plans anchored in evidence.
Most critically: we treat the cause. Whether your dry eye is driven by inflammation, meibomian gland dysfunction, aqueous tear deficiency, ocular surface damage, or a combination — we identify it and address it. You don’t just get more drops. You get a diagnosis and a plan.
Part of U Vision Group
UDEI is one of five specialist centres within the U Vision Group network. When your dry eye interacts with cataract surgery, refractive error, or other eye conditions, your care is seamlessly coordinated across Uptown Eye Specialists, U Eye Laser Cosmetic, U Optical, and U Surgical Centre — no external referrals, no re-explaining your history.
How We Work
Three levels of dry eye expertise
UDEI is built around a collaborative care model that is unique in Canadian dry eye practice. Our optometrists and Dry Eye Care Consultants are your primary team — diagnosing, treating, counselling, and managing your care across every visit. Supporting them are cornea specialist ophthalmologists from Uptown Eye Specialists, available when advanced surgical or medical intervention is needed.
Optometrists (OD)
5 SpecialistsLead diagnosis and treatment. Each has dedicated their practice to dry eye disease — delivering advanced diagnostics, in-office procedures, and long-term management plans.
Dry Eye Care Consultants (DCC)
5 ConsultantsCounsel patients, assist with in-office procedures, and — with advanced training — deliver treatments including UltraView DEL™ and other dry eye therapies. More DCCs means greater accessibility for patients.
Cornea Specialist MDs
2 OphthalmologistsFellowship-trained cornea and anterior segment surgeons from Uptown Eye Specialists. Available when your dry eye care requires advanced medical or surgical management.
Optometrists
Your dry eye specialists
Each of our optometrists has chosen to dedicate their practice entirely to dry eye disease — bringing deep expertise, advanced diagnostic skills, and a genuine understanding of the frustration chronic dry eye causes.

Dry Eye Care Consultants
Dedicated patient support
Our Dry Eye Care Consultants work directly alongside our optometrists — counselling patients, assisting with in-office procedures, and helping ensure every visit is thorough, supported, and unhurried.
What is a DCC? A Dry Eye Care Consultant is a trained clinical team member who counsels patients about their dry eye condition, assists with diagnostic testing and in-office procedures, and — with advanced training — delivers treatments including UltraView DEL and other dry eye therapies. Having dedicated DCCs at every location means patients receive more hands-on support and shorter wait times for care.

Why UDEI
What makes our approach different
Specialist focus
Our entire practice is dry eye — not a service line squeezed between general exams. This singular focus means deeper expertise and better outcomes.
Collaborative care model
ODs, DCCs, and cornea specialist MDs working together as one team. Every patient benefits from multiple levels of clinical expertise without needing separate referrals.
Advanced diagnostics
Meibography, tear osmolarity, Schirmer’s testing, and corneal staining — the diagnostic tools most practices don’t have access to. We identify the root cause, not just the symptom.
Evidence-based care
Every treatment is grounded in peer-reviewed research and clinical outcomes. As part of U Vision Group, our protocols are informed by one of Canada’s largest ophthalmology networks.
Part of the U Vision Group Family
Connected care, no dead ends
As a UDEI patient, you have seamless access to the full U Vision Group network — specialist clinics working together so your care never stops at our door.
